MUSIC

The Frank and Joe Show traffics in offbeat, swinging nostalgia. This new band led by Djangoesque guitarist Frank Vignola and percussionist Joe Ascione has released its first CD, "33 1/3"on Hyena Records, the latest venture of producer-turned- serial-label-founder Joel Dorn. Frank, Joe and guests including Dr. John, Jane Monheit and Janis Siegel find the fun in some mighty creaky standards: "Besame Mucho," "Don't Fence Me In," Begin the Beguine" and even - ouch - "Flight of the Bumblebee."

Then they plumb the '70s pop charts for instrumental versions of "Long Train Runnin' " and "Alone Again (Naturally)." Even the most jazz-deficient listener will have no trouble finding the melody when the band - sans guest stars - plays Tuesday night at 8 and 10 at Scullers, 400 Soldiers Field Road, Boston. Tickets: $15. Call 617-562-4111.
